CINCINNATI (May 13, 2017) – Orlando City B (3-3-3, 12 points) earned its third consecutive shutout with a 2-0 win over FC Cincinnati (2-4-3, 9 points) Saturday at Nippert Stadium. First Team midfielder Pierre Da Silva bagged his first goal of the season, while Richie Laryea scored his third goal in three matches.
With the win, the Lions have now taken seven out of a possible nine points in their last three road matches.
“I thought it was a fantastic away performance from our boys. We know we would have to defend at times because of the hostile environment, the pressure [Cincinnati] puts you under,” OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis said. “I felt like we were really dangerous and we counter attacked. We probably could have had a couple more goals if we were a little bit more clinical in the final third. I am really proud of the boys for coming into an environment like this and to perform the way they did. It was fantastic.”
Orlando City B controlled the tempo in the first half through Da Silva and Austin Martz. Da Silva, the first Orlando City Development Academy product to make an MLS appearance, nearly added to his league-leading four assists in the 14th minute when he sent in a driven cross into the box but Martz was unable to slide it home. The first half ended with a strong defensive display from OCB’s back line.
First Team defenders Seb Hines, Conor Donovan and Rafael Ramos all started in front of goalkeeper Earl Edwards, Jr., with Zach Ellis-Hayden playing at left back.
The match stayed even for the first 29 minutes of the second half before Da Silva earned a penalty kick with a lovely cut inside the box on Cincinnati’s Kadeem Dacres. The 18-year-old made no mistake from there as buried the penalty to give the Lions the match-winner. Then in stoppage time, Richie Laryea sealed the three points when he caught Cincinnati on the break and finished off his run with a strike past goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt.
Edwards Jr. closed out the match with a terrific left-handed save to secure OCB’s fourth clean sheet of the season. Laryea now leads the Lions with three goals, while Da Silva’s game-winner brings him to two goals on the year.
OCB will see another two-week layoff before returning to action on Saturday, May 27, when the Lions host Charlotte Independence. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium.
