Tommy Redding is quickly making a name for himself.
After travelling with the under-20 national team and taking home the first ever CONCACAF Championship for the United States, Redding was called-up as a member of the roster for the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea. The call-up marks another step in what has already been a great year for Redding.
Redding missed most of the Orlando City preseason due to the CONCACAF Championship tournament, and returned to the Lions as a late substitute in the 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew. Since then, Redding has played a full 90 minutes in six matches for the Lions, four of which resulted in victories. He was recently named one of the top young defenders in MLS and was cited as a steady young center back the likes of which the league has never seen. Now, his journey will continue as he travels to South Korea and seeks to bring home another trophy for the United States.
Redding is only 20-years-old, yet already he’s become a starter for an MLS club and rumors have circulated about a potential senior national team call-up. He’s working hard to put in the hours on the pitch for club and country, and his efforts have paid off. Orlando City is only one point behind Toronto FC for the top spot in the league, the United States brought home the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship for the first time in the team’s history, and it’s only May.
Redding has a bright career ahead of him. But this season has to be one of the highlights of his young career. Redding is making his impact felt on the pitch for Orlando and for the United States, and we’ve yet to see how far that could carry both him and his teammates. Redding has a lot of opportunities ahead of him, and he’ll be sure to make the best of them.
