ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 21, 2020) - Orlando City SC has loaned forward Santiago Patiño to Cimarrones de Sonora of Mexico’s Liga de Expansión MX, it was announced today. Patino will join the Mexican side for the rest of 2020.
“We’re excited about this opportunity for Santi to gain additional experience and some competitive minutes with Sonora, which will be an important opportunity for him,” Orlando City EVP of Soccer Ops Luiz Muzzi said. “We look forward to seeing his continued development and how he fares in his time in Mexico.”
Patiño, 23, was selected third-overall by the Lions at the 2019 MLS SuperDraft out of Florida International University. A native of Orlando, Patiño has since made 13 appearances in MLS regular season play for the Lions with three starts, scoring two goals while adding an assist in that span.
