Toronto FC may have gotten the best of Orlando City on the score sheet last night in a 2-1 victory, but it was a hard fought battle between the two teams.
“As the game progressed, I think the let down at the very end of the first half meant that it became a real dog fight, said Toronto FC’s Head Coach Greg Vanney. “We gave away some of our cushion and it came to two-one, and they came out pressing a little bit higher, a little bit faster.”
Orlando City trailed 2-0 early on after a sluggish start, but Kaká scored in stoppage time to end the first half. The Lions came out of the locker room a completely different team and were on full attack mode.
“We definitely did not play as well the first half,” said defender Tommy Redding. “But the second half was the best we’ve played – probably this year. We played really well, we just didn’t get the ball in the back of the net, which is unfortunate.”
Lions’ forward Cyle Larin, who is usually clinical around the goal, nearly scored twice in the second half against Toronto.
“The first one I got my cleat on it and it was rolling in, it was hard for me to get back on it from where I was,” Larin said. “With the second I should’ve just put it in.”
“The second half, I feel like we were all over them,” Redding said. “So, it’s unfortunate but that’s how it is sometimes.”
