Heading into its fourth season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), Orlando Pride has named Marc Skinner as its second-ever head coach. Skinner joins the Pride after two and a half seasons as the manager at Birmingham City Women F.C. of England’s FA Women’s Super League.
“We are very pleased to conclude the Club’s search for a new head coach and know the team here in Orlando put a lot of work into securing the best candidate to lead our talented group of players,” said Orlando Pride General Manager Erik Ustruck. “Marc will bring a breath of fresh air to the Pride through his modern approach to the game while instilling a foundation of principles to build from. He is both an innovative and progressive manager. We have an incredible opportunity in 2019 and beyond, and we are confident that Marc has the ability to create a winning culture with the Pride.”
“I want to thank the Orlando City SC organization for giving me the opportunity to lead the Pride ahead of the 2019 NWSL season,” added Skinner. “I believe that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’m excited to see what the group can bring to this league, and my staff and I will work hard to give them the direction to reach new heights.”
Skinner, 35, was named head coach for Birmingham in December 2016 after serving seven years as technical director for the club’s youth development structure in the Centre of Excellence. In his first season at the helm, Skinner and BCFC played a shortened Spring season, which culminated with Skinner leading the club to the FA Women’s Cup final.
After taking over Birmingham, Skinner was credited with turning around the Blues’ style of play - creating a well-organized and defensively sound system while implementing a dominant attacking style. At the time of Skinner’s departure, Birmingham has conceded just 10 goals over 13 games and sits only five points out of Champions League contention.
The UEFA “A” License holder previously served as Birmingham’s Reserve Team Manager and First Team goalkeeper coach.
Skinner’s support staff will be announced at a later date.
The Pride will begin their fourth season in the NWSL in April. Season ticket memberships and group tickets are available at orlando-pride.com/tickets or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
