The second round of the Westfield W-League took place this past weekend with three members of the Orlando Pride taking the field. Pride defender Carson Pickett made her 2019 W-League debut for the Brisbane Roar against the Melbourne Victory on Thursday.
Two members of the Pride then squared off to cap off the weekend with Canberra United and Camila taking on Emily van Egmond and Melbourne City early Sunday morning. Van Egmond scored the game-winner in the 94th minute of the match, her second goal in as many contests to open up the W-League season.
Thursday, November 21:
Melbourne Victory 3, Brisbane Roar 2
Orlando Pride defender Carson Pickett made her 2019 Westfield W-League debut on Thursday in Brisbane’s season opener against the Melbourne Victory. Pickett started the match and played a full 90 for the Roar to begin her third season with the club. The Roar conceded two own goals early in the 11th and 14th minutes respectively, but cut the deficit in half with a finish from Tameka Yallop in the 24th minute. The Victory doubled their lead once more with a finish in the 76th minute, with the Roar responding with a score in the 80th from Indiah Paige Riley, but the rally came up just short for the home side.
Sydney FC 1, Adelaide United 0
The reigning W-League Champions took their second victory of the season in as many games in a 1-0 win at Adelaide United on Friday. Portland Thorns forward Caitlin Foord scored the eventual game-winner for Sydney in the 56th minute to earn all three points for the visiting side. The Pride’s Alanna Kennedy did not appear for Sydney in the match.
Sunday, November 24:
Melbourne City 2, Canberra United 1
The final match of the second round of the W-League saw two members of the Orlando Pride share the pitch with Camila featuring for Canberra United and Emily van Egmond for Melbourne City. Both played the entirety of the match for their respective clubs, with van Egmond scoring the game-winner for Melbourne City by converting from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The finish served as van Egmond’s second in as many games to start her 2019 W-League campaign. The Pride’s Claire Emslie did not appear for Melbourne in the match.
