Pride in the W-League: Round 3 Recaps

The third round of the Westfield W-League took place this past weekend with four members of the Orlando Pride featuring for their respective clubs. Carson Pickett earned her first assist of the season for Brisbane in their matchup against Western Sydney on Thursday, while Pride teammates Camila, Claire Emslie and Emily van Edmond took the field on Saturday. 



Thursday, November 28:


Western Sydney Wanderers 3, Brisbane Roar 1

Orlando Pride defender Carson Pickett and the Brisbane Roar opened up the third round of the W-League campaign early Thursday morning, falling 3-1 to the Western Sydney Wanderers. Pickett played the entirety of the match for the Roar, registering her first assist of the season off Brisbane’s lone goal from Rylee Baisden in the 55th minute of the match. North Carolina Courage forward Kristen Hamilton scored a hat trick for the Wanderers, leading the Roar to fall for the second time this season. 


Saturday, November 30:


Canberra United 3, Newcastle Jets 2

Canberra United and Pride forward Camila battled to earn their second victory of the year early Saturday morning. The Brazilian international played the entirety of the match for the visitors, having played every minute for Canberra thus far this season. Canberra jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring in the 29th and 32nd minutes respectively before Tara Andrews converted two penalty kicks in the 41st and the first minute of first half stoppage to level the two sides. Elise Thorsnes scored the game-winner for the road side in the 81st minute to take all three points from the match. 


Melbourne City 1, Adelaide United 0


Two members of the Orlando Pride featured in the starting XI for Melbourne City on Saturday in midfielder Emily van Egmond and forward Claire Emslie. Emslie recorded 81 minutes in the match, with van Egmond registering 87. Kyah Simon scored the eventual game-winner for City in the eighth minute of the match, maintaining the club’s unbeaten record through three rounds of W-League play. 


Sunday, December 1st:


Sydney FC 3, Perth Glory 1

The defending W-League Champions earned their third victory in as many contests to close out the third round of the W-League campaign. Australian international Remy Siemsen scored for Sydney in the third and sixth minutes respectively, followed by Caitlin Foord converting from the penalty spot in the 39th minute to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Caitlin Doeglas scored the goal for Perth after the break, but the rally ceased then to give the road side all three points. The Pride’s Alanna Kennedy did not appear for Sydney in the match as she continues to work back from injury.
